AdBlue For Trains

Reliable supplier of AdBlue for trains in Australia.

AdBlue for Trains

AdBlue® is a liquid solution used to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) from diesel engines in trains. It is an additive made from highly purified urea and deionized water that is injected into the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system of modern diesel locomotives. When AdBlue® mixes with the hot exhaust gases, it breaks down into ammonia which then converts harmful NOx into harmless nitrogen and water vapor. Using AdBlue® has become necessary for trains to meet stringent emissions regulations aimed at improving air quality and reducing environmental pollution. The use of this exhaust aftertreatment fluid has allowed train operators to continue utilizing fuel-efficient diesel power while dramatically cutting emissions of smog-forming NOx.

AdBlue Consumption for Locomotives

Locomotives consume a significant amount of AdBlue® in addition to diesel fuel.

  • Diesel fuel consumption is around 1 liter per kilometer
  • AdBlue® consumption is approximately 3% to 5% of diesel consumption, depending on speed and weather conditions.

To illustrate, consider a locomotive traveling 800 km per day and transporting around 400,000 passengers annually.
